When ordering replacement water pumps for the B series engine (used on MGA & MGB) it pays to check which pump type you have; it is worth keeping in mind with the passage of time the original pump may have been changed to another type and this can lead to alignment issues with the pulleys.

The MGB 1800 B series engines used one of three water pumps; from early to late these were GWP115, GWP114, GWP130.

The correct water pump can be identified by taking a measurement from the engine block face to the rear of the pulley mounting (not to be confused with the back of the water pump pulley for which the fan belt is fitted too) and by measuring the width/diameter of the impellor.

The MGA 3 Bearing engine used a GWP103 water pump with a casting length measuring 3.625″/93mm measured from engine block to rear of the pulley mounting.

The MGB B series, early chrome bumper engines (from approx. 1962 to August 1970) used one of two water pumps, GWP115 or GWP114 both measuring 4.125″ /105mm from engine block to rear of the pulley mounting.

GWP115 was used from 18G to 18GA series 3 Main Bearing engines (approx. from 1962 to February 1964), these had an impellor diameter of 2.3125″/ 59mm.

GWP114 was used from 18GB to 18GG 5 Main Bearing engines (approx. October 1964 to August 1970), these had an impellor diameter of 2.8125″ / 71.5mm.

GWP130 was used for all 18V series engines (approx. from August 1971 to end of production, measuring 3.25″/82.5 mm from engine block to rear of the pulley mounting, with an impellor diameter of 2.812″/ 71.5mm. This later pump was additionally fitted with a spacer between the water pump pulley and fan, approx. 20-25mm.
